I'm Back
Big surprise there.
I was going to take some time off from this Substack, but I find if I have no short form outlet I end up over commenting on Threads. That is parasocially awkward. Substack, at least feels like a natural place to put ideas and thoughts.
I’ve been making more Sora Films. This is what happened this weekend.
The Logic of Night
The Velvet Doppelgänger
I don’t use AI for literary purposes, as that part I can do that myself. I can’t stage, light, film and produce things of this caliber inside my house in Reno. Believe me, I’ve tried. My YouTube is a long record of iMovie experiments. The good, the bad and the WTF. Link here if you want to see them.
Speaking of parasocial awkwardness, it’s been difficult being a prolific AI user in the age of anti-AI as authorial pose. I block, I unfollow. I do what I have to do to keep making the art I feel is necessary. Without online abuse.
The heartbreaking fact of it is that I agree with a lot of these people. I’m working on a book right now and AI has no part in it. I learned the old magic back when email was new.
Having AI write the novel would take away the fun part, the creation of the work. Then I’d just have to try to it published and do promotion. Much harder, for those of you who know. Not an enjoyable experience. I am tired to death of flogging my novels on social media. Probably why I have this new hobby.
AI filmmaking is a hobby for me, as is all of my YouTube experiments. I lived in LA for ten years after CalArts, but had to leave for real estate reasons. Any chance of breaking into the industry feels too late. I’m too old and tired. Writing is my main focus. As it has been, as it will be.
As above, so below.
